CNG in Kanpur

View Delhi to Allahabad in a larger map

Distance - 230 kms
Time taken - 4.00 hrs

Kanpur was about 10 kms away, when the CNG indicator showed that gas is almost finish. Although there are many CNG stations in Kanpur city, but for bye passers like me, here is the good news again. You don't have to enter Kanpur. Just before the city starts, there is a place called Panki which has a gas station. This station is near SAIL (steel authority) depot (which can be easily seen in Google earth/maps) adjacent to Kanpur 'Highway flyover'.

The 'Kanpur Flyover' is actually the bye pass which passes through middle of the city. This is an elevated road of a length of 23 kms (approx.). I could see the sprawling city on both the sides of the highway. I was amazed to see this first time in my May-2012 long ride. Even this time I crossed Kanpur in just 20 minutes.

Direction - While approaching the flyover (elevated highway) in Kanpur, take slight left for the slip road from NH-2. Gas station is hardly 600 mts away (See map).

  • Road condition

Journey was fine till the car was on NH-2. For Allahabad we had to leave NH-2 Bye pass. We took Kanpur road to reach the Sangam / Kumbh Mela place. This road is not very good. It is a double road, but without a median/divider.

We reached our place, 'International Media Camp' at around 23.00 hrs. It was a long journey, but due to the quality of the highway, the drive was not very tiring.

We stayed in Allahabad for next 2 days and had a wonderful 'never before' experience at the MAHA Kumbh Mela.
